Symphony by GipsonDiamondJeweler Symphony by GipsonDiamondJeweler
****SOLD****

This is going to be my entry in the "Saul Bell" international competition. You can enter as many pieces as you want, and since this is my first time entering, I probably should enter more than one....But life's pretty busy right now, so I'll try to enter multiple designs next year.

This pendant is made of sterling silver wire and sheet, with a two tone polish and satin finish. The gemstone is a natural amethyst measuring 10 x 14 mm. You can tell by the photo it's a unique cut, which they call a millennium cut.

Personally, I think the best I could hope for in the contest this year is to make it to the finals, and I doubt I'll even make it that far. But nothing ventured nothing gained right? Anyway, no matter the outcome, designing this piece as been a great learning experience from sketching it on a piece of paper, to adding the final touches.

Wish me luck everyone!

*o* That is gorgeous! The swirly art noveau lines with the rectangle stone is really neat looking. The texture of the stone is good too. Regardless of how you place, this is an amazing piece!

it is isn't it? I've tried many times to design a beautiful pendant worthy of that amethyst. Finally when this design came to mind, I knew it'd be the one.

This is gorgeous! It has beautiful, clean lines and a nice finish. :D Its so elegant, and I love the cut of the gemstone. :) I think you've got a fighting chance. :D

It takes a long time to get an award of this caliber, so do it every year if you can. :D

thanks very much :D I appreciate your compliments and support.

I don't expect to win ^^; or place in the finals, but submitting a piece in an international competition for the first time feels like enough of an accomplisment to me.

Yeah, think I'm only going to enter one piece myself. Was going to try and do two, but the way things are going, bleh.

Good luck.

Not yet, I've got a prototype piece I've made that I'm finishing clean up work on. It hasn't been a smooth deal trying to make it so I've spent several months working on prototypes and see if I can get them to work. As long as things workout on the financial side of things, going to be doing the one I'm going to do officially in gold. With all the failed attempts wasn't worth attempting it in gold until I saw how it turned out in the end. Takes like 50 hours of work too, so had to be damn sure about the design working correctly.

Was hoping to get to prong clean up on the prototype and getting a photograph up on here today, but I'm not sure that's going to happen with how I'm feeling at the moment. Definitely going to have it up this weekend though, hopefully Saturday.

That is a beautiful piece. I have been thinking about entering that contest, but I don't have a torch at my house, which makes it a little difficult.
I love the lines of this piece. The mix of wire and sheet is great. I just have one suggestion: I have found that beading (with a torch) or flaring (with a hammer) the tips of wires when doing filigree creates a very finished look.
I wish you the best of luck!

Thank you :D

and yeah that's actually not a bad idea. I like how the wire looks when it comes to an end at the bottom, but something like that would've made it look a little more finished where the wire curls at the top.

Well, on this piece I'm not going to do anymore to it. Everytime you put heat on jewelry you risk messing things up ^^; but next time I'll keep that in mind :D
